RYA Sailing Course at GTSC

And so we end the summer courses with another wonderful week of Sailing out at our lovely club!

With 5 Beginner Sailors and 8 Improver Sailors attending our RYA 1+2 and RYA 3+4 courses, it was a busy week at Goring with a lovely breeze to go with it!

On day 1 we had a slightly slow start to the day as we waited for the breeze to fill in, but by the afternoon we had some lovely wind which allowed all of our sailors to make a great start on their courses. We finished off the day with some capsize practice for our beginners!

Day 2 was a windier morning and our Improver sailors got started with their Stage 4 moving into double-handed boats and practicing their Man-Over-Board drills.

The Beginners progressed to upwind sailing and practiced their knots, learning to tie a figure of eight and a reef knot!

With the windier day came a few accidental capsizes so everyone was very ready to jump in and have a swim at the end of the day!

Day 3 brought a lovely breeze and the opportunity for the Beginners to begin to practice gybing. The Improvers continued to practice their double-handed sailing after a quick theory session!

The Improvers moved on to some rudderless sailing and anchoring in the afternoon after mastering their stage 3 and 4 maneuvers.

Day 4 bought some lovely wind! Our Improvers started the day practicing backward sailing, centerboards, and rudderless sailing. Whilst our Beginners tried their hand at double-handed sailing!

We made the most of the wind and finished off the day with a mini regatta giving most of the juniors their first taste at racing ahead of surely joining in with the junior racing series!

On the final day of the week, we traveled upstream to have our lunch on 'goose poo island' just above Molseford Bridge. On our way back downstream after lunch we stopped off for some ice creams at Sheridan Marina before returning to the club and ending off with some final capsizing and jumping in!

We would like to congratulate all of our juniors who achieved their RYA qualifications this week.
